The cathedral was built in X-XI centuries during the reign of King Bagrat III, the after him and got a temple called “Bagrati”, and consecrated it in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin. Bagrat Cathedral occupies a special place in the history of Georgia and is an architectural feature.
